Pine Tree School Bus Crashes On The Way To A Football Game

Gladewater police say a Pine Tree school bus driver, who is also the band director, loses control and runs off the road. The accident happened in Gladewater on Loop 485 near Highway 271 around 5:30 tonight.

Gladewater Fire Chief Wayne Smith said none of the injuries are life-threatening.

According to police, the driver was distracted and the bus clipped the back of a trailer before leaving the road, driving through a fence, uprooting a tree stump and finally coming to rest on private property.

Authorities tell KLTV 7 the injuries range from possible broken bones to cuts and scrapes. 38 band members, plus the band director, were on the bus. 33 people were treated at Good Shepard Hospital in Longview. Most have been released. 14 people are still at the hospital listed in good condition.

The Gladewater Police Chief said they are taking extra precautions tonight clearing the bus from the scene, because it came to rest near an underground gas line.

Right now, loop 485 is open to traffic.

An announcement was made at the game, and those in attendance observed a moment of silence.
