Longview Police Say Vehicle Break-Ins Are On A Rise

Longview police say the number of vehicles being broken into this month, compared to last month is on the rise and it's partially the fault of the car owners. Over the past two weeks there have been several break-ins at local apartment complexes and shopping center parking lots in Longview. One vehicle was broken into twice in one month. The owner said the thieves broke into his car through a side back window. Police say a solution to some of these "break ins" is up to vehicle owners. "Unfortunately, the biggest problem we're seeing with vehicle burglaries is the fact that people are leaving items out in their vehicles that can be seen,"said Sergeant Shaun Pendleton, of the Longview Police Department. Police say a safe rule of thumb for drivers is "if you can see it...don't leave it."
