Local First Graders Learn About Patriotism From Veterans

More than 150 Bullard first graders got a lesson on the importance of patriotism from some local veterans Thursday. The kids learned the meaning behind the Pledge of Allegiance, how to properly fold the American Flag, and what a "buddy poppy" stands for. The first graders told KTLV it was the best way to learn about America.

"The coolest part that I learned today was folding the flag and learning that there is 13 stripes and 50 stars on the flag," said Tanner Clark.

"I liked the part where we got to wave the flags," said Bethany Nelson.

"My favorite part was having a great time here and learning about the Pledge of Allegiance," said Georgia Pendergrass.

Each week, local veterans from Frankston have been visiting East Texas schools teaching the kids about patriotism.
