U.T. Tyler Does Groundbreaking Work

At U.T. Tyler Monday, physical fitness starts not with stretching, or jogging, but digging. The university held an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Patriot Complex. Despite the title for the gathering, workers actually began construction back in December.

The building, when completed will house the Health and Kinesiology Physical Education Complex. Inside there will be new classrooms, a jogging track, gymnasium and an aerobics area.

U.T. Tyler President Dr. Rodny Mabry says the biggest benefit of the building will be in the quality of student life.  "Our students wanted a place to be able to work out, to exercise. They wanted to be able to have a sports program. They want to have all of those elements that go with a significant university. And this facility allows us to kick all of that off."

The Patriot Center will be finished for the Fall 2003 Semester.
