James W. Fair is widely known as an astute businessman and philanthropist. But in 1944 he was just a teenager trying to help his country win World War Two.
Fair was 19 and a student at SMU when he went into the Navy. Fair commanded a landing craft delivering troops and supplies directly onto the beaches in the Philipines and at the invasion of Okinowa.
After returning to Tyler, Fair completed his education at SMU, and at the age of 25 became the youngest mayor ever electd in the city of Tyler. Fair's leadership in his city's growth and his development of Hidaway Lake and similar developments in Mississippi and Alabama, have put him in the forefront of the business world.
As President of the Fair Foundation, he has helped numerous causes in his community. At the age of 82, as Board Chairman of Fair Oil Company, James Fair continues to come to his office every day... truly a Freedom Fighter in war and in peace.
