Former East Texas Police Lieutenant Makes A Come Back

He was left paralyzed from the waist down, after an auto accident last year. But he's not letting that stop him from serving his community.  KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley, reports on how former Henderson police lieutenant Rickey Turner, is making a come back, one move at a time.

Rickey Turner isn't letting anything slow him down. In fact, he and his family are getting ready to move into a new home, that was given to them as a gift. "The best thing about the house is that I have a row in shower and I have a bathtub. That's what's so beautiful,"said Turner.

Several community organizations, co-workers, and friends raised money to build Rickey and his family a brand new home. Rickey says now that he has a second chance at life-- he's not taking it lightly. "I've been given a second chance, and I'm not going to waste that second chance. I'm going to do everything I can to try and help people."

"My physically handicaps right now, are not going to be a physical handicap to me,"he said. Despite being in a wheel chair, Rickey says he's ready to get back to work in law enforcement. "I don't really want to be retired so, I'm going to run for sheriff again in Rusk county. That's one way I feel like, I can repay the community back, is to go and do the best job for our community." Rickey says as for his critics-- who might think he can't get the job done. "Watch out. I'm not going to stop, open the doors and move out the way."
