Hundreds gathered under a tent, Sunday afternoon at T.K. Gorman, to kick off fundraising for a new chapel, The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parishioners enjoyed food, fun and music. Some believe a new chapel would be a great addition to the school and the city of Tyler.
"I think it really is a step into the future for Catholic Tyler and the whole community," said Monsignor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Father Joe Strickland.
Jim Franz, principal of T.K. Gorman School said building a chapel on the Gorman campus keeps it as both a Cathedral church and school church, which he says serves a dual function.
In all, Cathedral parishioners hope to raise $4 million for the new chapel.
