Humane Society Answers Back To City Claims

The Humane Society of Smith County is refuting claims from the City of Tyler over the decision to end their 44 year partnership. The biggest claim:That the society refused a formal audit.

In a statement late today, Humane society president Gayle Helms told KLTV 7, quote, "the Humane Society has never refused a request for a formal financial audit. The society has continuously provided monthly financial reports to the city manager and has previously indicated it would cooperate fully in an audit. However, as a non-profit,....the society simply asked that the city select an accounting firm and pay for the audit from city funds."

Starting Monday, the city will start housing stray dogs at the Klein Animal Shelter in Jacksonville.
