Pirates Undefeated, Wanting More

After going a combined 4-26 over the past three seasons, the Pine Tree Pirates have started the year at 3-0.

These are not your older brother's Pine Tree Pirates.

"It's very gratifying," fourth-year head coach Tim Russell said. "It's taken a lot of hard work. The kids and the coaching staff have been working extremely hard.  We had some tough times there early, and we weren't as talented as some teams. We had to go back and change some things with the lower levels and in the weight room."

"We did some different things, and we're very excited to see that stuff translate into wins."

That dedication has led the Pirates to not only a 3-0 record, but also a 12-4A high 119 points .

"It makes me feel a lot better," Pirates senior Ronnie Hill said. "It makes me want to work hard, and keep winning."

Offensive lineman Cody Craig said their record so far is nice, but the rest of the season is the most important part.

"It feels good, but the team knows that we have to stay focused and keep working hard."

For now, the Pirates are happy about their undefeated start, and looking forward to shooting for their first playoff berth since 2001.
