Parkinson's Trials Hope to Find Cure for Disease

Researchers in Kentucky are about to start clinical trials on a new treatment for Parkinson's disease.

Doctors are able to treat symptoms of Parkinson's, but researchers say they want to take treatment a step further-- to finding an actual cure.

A programmable pump will be surgically implanted in the patient's abdomen. A catheter attached to the brain will deliver a growth factor to the brain. The pump will stay inside the patient for years, continuing to release the growth factor, restoring lost neurons and hopefully reversing the progression of the disease.
