***EMBARGO 9AM WED*** SPCA, Upshur County Raid Puppy Mill Near Gladewater

SPCA of Texas officials along with Upshur County sheriff's officials conducted a raid early Wednesday Morning.

Officials say they rescued more than 200 dogs from the puppy mill near Gladewater.

SPCA officials say the dogs were forced to breed and live in overcrowded and dirty conditions.

The property owner was arrested by the Upshur County officials earlier in the week on animal cruelty charges.

SPCA officials say the dogs were found living in buildings, kennels, and trailers infested with roaches and feces. They say many of the dogs are suffering from matted coats, hair loss and potentially other diseases.

After the raid is completed, officials say the dogs will be brought back to the SPCA shelter in McKinney.

Once at the shelter the SPCA says the animals will be vaccinated, wormed, fed, groomed and examined by a veterinarian. The SPCA says they will request the animals be rewarded to the agency at an upcoming hearing. If the animals are given to the organization, they say the dogs will be spayed or neutered and made available for adoption.
