At just 25 years old, Longview native Jermaine Mitchell is already rubbing elbows with Oscar winners. Mitchell landed a part in the movie "The Great Debaters", starring Denzel Washington and another Longview native, Forest Whitaker. Mitchell graduated from Longview High School in 2000, where he performed his first play. "I always had a dream of being on TV. I used to watch PBS, Sesame Street, and Mr. Rodgers. I used to think--wow that would be so cool to be on TV," said Mitchell. Mitchell appeared in the movie "The Great Debaters," due out in January. He's also snagging parts in the critically acclaimed shows "Friday Night Lights," and the Fox hit show "Prison Break. "As for his career goals, Jermaine says he's shooting high."I'm shooting for an Oscar, maybe ten Academy Awards,and five Emmy's, but my goal is to win an Oscar," he said. "When you find what God has for you, you just walk into it. Pursue your dream and never give up on it,"said Mitchell. Along with his acting career Jermaine is active with the youth and singles ministry at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church.
