Players Duck and Cover For Tyler Dodgeball

It was silly, but fun.

The Festival on the square was Saturday, and Tyler Parks and recreation put on their first ever dodgeball competition. The Festival has featured volleyball for a dozen years, but today they used the sand for dodgeball for the first time.

Twelve co-ed teams came out for the Brickstreet Battle to try and take the championship, take out some frustrations, and generally take it every way but seriously.

"We're really bad at other sports," contestant Scott Dillingham explained, "I can't hit the ball in baseball, I can't find the ball in volleyball, I can't find the hoop in basketball, but it makes me pretty good at this sport. "

"We're really playing for pride out here. I'm not sure what the prize is, but we're purists for the sport. We're just here to compete and bring some more popularity to the game of dodgeball."

Dillingham might have been playing for pride, but the winners did get free concert tickets for tonight.

Losers got a free t-shirt and a few red welts.
