Longview Mayor Calls For Marine To Be Honored

Longview's mayor is asking East Texans to line the streets Saturday to pay their respects to a local hero.

Marine Staff Sergeant John Stock was killed by a suicide car bomber last week while on duty with the Marines in Iraq. Longview mayor Jay Dean is asking locals to turn out for the funeral procession.

"I'm calling on the citizens of Longview to come forward and to show their respect, because that's what our community is all about.  This community is all about neighborly love for one another, and I hope that they'll come out and show their respect and admiration for this family as well as this young man who gave his life to defend the freedoms that we enjoy," Dean said.

The funeral procession will be on Saturday September 15th, immediately following services at Saint Mary's Catholic Church.

Those wishing to pay their respects are asked to line the route along Airline Road and Hawkins Parkway.
