7 On Your Side: Cheapest Days To Buy

Seeing the word "SALE" is sure to catch the attention of any shopper.

"I have watched something for months and then come back when it was clearance," says shopper Kelly Hudson.

Smartmoney.com has these shopping tips, that will have you looking at the days of the week a lot differently.

The best day to buy airline tickets: Wednesday morning.

Airline sales begin on the weekend, prompting other airlines to discount their fares. By late Tuesday early Wednesday morning, a ticket to fly is usually at its lowest.

But maybe you're in the market for a new car.  The best day to buy: Monday.

Car dealers make most their sales on the weekend, making Monday a low foot traffic day.  The few consumers on the lot this day can give you a lot of negotiating power.

What about clothes?  You can't pass a store window without seeing the temptation to check out what's inside.

"Ralph Lauren is usually my favorite thing but I'm not going to pay full price," says shopper Teri Dickerson.

The best day to buy clothes is Thursday evening.  It's the day many stores restock their shelves and start their weekend promotions.

"I did know that it just so happens that the circular comes out and it will say 'Our sale is Thursday, Friday, Saturday.' You want to get there on the first day because that's when there's an abundance of merchandise," says Hudson.

Then there's the never-ending attempt to find cheap gas.

"This [gas station] here on Broadway is normally cheaper.  There's one on 271, one near gentry parkway and one on 155," says Flint resident Gary Hall who stopped to fill-up on gas.

Whichever gas station is your favorite, Smart Money says go on Thursday mornings before 10 a.m.

You'll beat the weekend demand which usually starts the following day.

"I didn't know that either!," says Bethany Nolley.

Gary adds, "Is that right? Okay, I'll try to keep that in mind."

When it comes to entertainment, like the movies for example the best time to go is during the week.

If you're eating out with the family, the best days are on Tuesdays when many restaurants have kids eat free nights.

Kelly adds, "We love kids eat free night and you can find that in a lot of different places around Tyler."

So the next time you see those "SALE" signs, the day of the week could make just as big a difference finding that great deal.

A couple other items:

Groceries: The days to buy are Sunday or Tuesday. And you can maximize your savings by comparing the weekly sale items with the coupons from the Sunday paper.

Also, Smart Money says the best day to buy for hotel rooms is Sunday.
