Gift of Love: Austin

Austin describes himself as a "cowboy" who loves wearing cowboy boats, being outside is what he enjoys best.

"I like to hunt. I like to fish. I like to play sports. I like to swim. I really like to eat. Pizza is my favorite," says Austin.

"He's a very fun loving kid who responds well to attention and he gets along well with others," explains Devin Frakes with the Bair Foundation.

Austin has made the most of being in foster care the past two years. He was removed from his home after his mother couldn't meet his basic needs.

Austin says, "Being in foster care has been awesome. I get to meet lots of new people and people will take care of me and it's cool."

"I've seen Austin blossom in foster care. He first came in and was very reserved, kind of shy, lacked some of the social norms, but he has grown. He's got a lot more personality. He's a lot more outgoing," says Devin.

When times get tough for this 11 year old, he hangs in there. He's determined to get ahead and he needs a family to help him reach his goals.

"I guess I'm just good like that," he says about playing a video game.

This 5th grader enjoys school but will need some help with homework. He also needs a little nudge from time to time from his teachers. He tells me, "I just do what they say and I'm better off. My problem is I don't listen."

Devin says, "He definitely has a lot of potential but it's going to take a family that is patience and willing to work with him to bring that out."

"I want to be a fireman when I grow up," says Austin with a smile.

Until that day, Austin waits for someone to help him, giving him the tools to succeed. The main one being, the Gift of Love.
