East Texas Man Brutally Murdered In Home

Police are looking for whoever brutally attacked and murdered an East Texas man and then stole his car. Police say they found Tony D. Moore, 39, beaten to death inside his home in the 800 block of Clinton Street in Athens.  Moore's co-workers and neighbors said he was a gentle man who never knew an enemy.

In a quiet neighborhood in the quiet town of Athens, residents are shaken over the news of the brutal murder.

"I can't imagine someone being so angry that they would do that to someone, so motivated to hurt somebody like that.  I can't imagine anybody going through that, that's a horrible thing," said neighbor Virgil Feinsod.

Blood stains on the entryway of Moore's home show signs of a struggle just outside his front door, but little clues have given police no motive or a suspect.

"At this time we really don't know where it started, we know that the confrontation took place at the residence, but we don't know if it started inside or outside. That part is still under investigation," said Police Chief Buddy Hill.

Neighbors said they only heard dogs barking and some noise, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.

"He was a good guy.  I mean he was just a quiet gentle guy, didn't seem to be anything but just everybody else, trying to get through life," said Feinsod.

And his co-workers at Tyler's Melrose Nursing home said he was studying to be a minister.

"I can't imagine why anyone would try to hurt him ... because he would never hurt anybody," said co-worker Shanita Walker.

Now all they can do is pray that police find the person who did this to Tony Moore, beating him to death inside his own home.

Police said they do not have any suspects at this time, and they need your help locating Tony Moore's stolen car.

It's described as a 2003 dark gray Jaguar with Texas license plate number V60-TFZ. Contact Athens Police if you have any information.
