That was the scene today at the second annual "Brookshire's Firefighter Combat Challenge."

Fire fighters from all over the United States are in East Texas this weekend for the combat challenge. "It's one of the only events in the south and it brings teams from all over," said  Joey Hooton. Hundreds of people came out to watch teams compete in five obstacle courses, that simulate what they would do in an actual fire and rescue.

You know my combat challenge team is just like a family to me, and it is a blessing to be out here with these guys you,"said Hooton.

Fire fighter go thorough five task,  the high hose carry, the hose hoist, forcible entry ,hose advance and victim rescue.  During the challenge, fire fighters have to drag dummies that weigh 180 pounds. The challenge also consist of climbing six flights of stairs.

"It's amazing to watch these guys, what they can do and even the women as well," said Driver. "There's females that can do anything, and we can set a good example for everybody, especially little girls and little boys," said El Paso fire fighter Nancy Maldonado.

Even though the fire fighter challenge is some what of a competition, fire fighters manage to encourage each other.  "It's neat to see everybody out here cheering us on. It's not one of those events that people, boo other people, everybody's cheered on, "said  Hooton.

At the end of the challenge, two Tyler fire fighter relay teams qualified and will now go on to compete in the world fire fighter challenge that will be held in Las Vegas in November.
