Former Gladewater Officer Surrenders License

Brian Naismith, once a Gladewater police officer, pled guilty to unlawful restraint of a reporter in Upshur County Friday.

He had to permanently surrendered his Texas Peace Officer's certificate.

In March of 2006, a Dallas Morning News reporter claimed Naismith threatened him and pointed a shotgun at him.

The reporter was covering the shooting death of a suspect, which Naismith was investigated for in 2005. He was no-billed in that case.

In this recent plea, the former officer received a one-year probated sentence, a $1,000 fine, and 80 hours of community service. Bob Hallmark reporting.
