Former MLB Pitcher Speaks In Longview

A former Major League Baseball player, who was struck down by cancer in the prime of his career, is visiting East Texas with a message of hope and faith.  Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Dave Draveky is in Longview this weekend.  Draveky came back to baseball after being diagnosed with cancer in 1988, only to break his arm in a game and have the cancer return.  Since then he has become a successful author and motivational speaker.

"Some people have even looked at me and said Dave what happened to you was tragic and yeah in some respects it was," said Draveky.  "I'm a human being, and if you're going to be honest about this sure it was I feel like my career was cut short, but the truth is without it I wouldn't be where I'm at today."  Draveky will be speaking at First Baptist Church of Longview Sunday at 8:45 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.  The event is free to the public.
