Some East Texas Teachers Prove They Are Smarter Than A Fifth Grader

Are you smarter than a fifth grader? What about some of our East Texas teachers? Well, Friday, Gladewater's First Baptist Church hosted a back to school lunch for more than 400 school employees, putting their skills to the test.

For more than 20 years, it's been a tradition - an appreciation luncheon, complete with hamburgers, iced tea, and plenty of chit chat

"We look forward to this every year," says fourth grade teacher Cathy Bedair.

But what makes this year different from all the others is a little known game show called Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

It's a question each school employee was faced with right when they walked in the door.

"We thought it'd probably be pretty interesting to see if school teachers could answer some of these questions, because we struggled answering some of them ourselves," said Pastor Ellis Hayden.

Some employees shyed away.

"Honestly I'm afraid to get a question wrong," said Cathy.

But others, like Sarah Earp, were up for the challenge.

All of the teachers we saw participate got their questions right, proving most East Texas teachers are indeed smarter than a fifth grader

Just don't ask them to teach the sixth grade.
