East Texans Arrested For Credit Card Theft

They used credit card receipts from the garbage to purchase merchandise for their store. Tonight, two East Texas men are behind bars charged with theft.

The Smith County Sheriff's Department says James Harris, 25 and Samuel Walton, 30 used stolen American Express credit card numbers to purchase truck tires from several local tire stores.  The men would then sell the tires back at their shop in Rockwall County.

"We estimated anywhere from 100 to 300 tires have been bought that we know of as today, and it's probably going to be twice that amount using receipts from garbage on American Express," said Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith.  "The reason they were using American Express cards is because they said it was easier to get the money."

The sheriff's department says the men spent more than $300,000 using stolen American Express numbers.
