East Texas Disaster Relief Agencies Are Ready To Help

East Texas disaster relief organizations are gearing up for a possible State of Emergency in the wake of Hurricane Dean.  The Salvation Army in Tyler says it have hundreds of cots and mattresses on hand for hurricane victims evacuated to East Texas.  Also, the American Red Cross says every chapter in the state has been making preparations.

"We have a mobile canteen that's ready for immediate deployment," said Salvation Army Lodge Manager John Voight.  "It has on board a kitchen, as well as, it can service and prepare a lot of food items.  We have a disaster van that travels along with it that carries water and additional food."

"Here locally, we've met with our shelter managers, leaders, and our health care professionals that we've worked with and just basically said we may need you to be ready," said Smith County American Red Cross Executive Director Tammy Prater.  "They've all said we're ready."   Both the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross says it has additional shelter areas, if needed, for evacuees affected by the hurricane.
