East Texas Disaster Relief Organizations Prepare For Hurricane Dean

East Texas disaster relief organizations are gearing up for a possible state of emergency in the wake of Hurricane Dean. The Salvation Army, in Tyler says they have hundreds of cotts and mattresses on hand for hurricane victims evacuated to East Texas.

"We have a mobile canteen that's ready for immediate deployment. "It has an on board kitchen as well as it can service and prepare lot of food items. We have a disaster van that trials along with it that carries water and additional food," said John Voight, lodge manager at the Tyler Salvation Army. 

 Also, The American Red Cross says every chaper in the state has been making prepations all week to help out with the rath of Hurriane Dean."Here locally we've met with our shelter managers, leaders, and our health care professionals, that we've worked with.  Basically, we said we may need you to be ready, and they've all said we're ready," Tammy Prater of the Smith County American Red Cross said.

Both the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross say they have additional shelter areas, if needed, for evacuess effected by the hurricane.
