Overnight Fire Destroys Middle School Building

Tyler Fire Investigators are still trying to find the cause of an early morning fire at an East Texas school.

Tyler Fire crews responded to a 2-alarm fire around 2:30am Wednesday morning on the campus of Moore Middle School.

One of the school's portable buildings was fully engulfed when crews arrived, the building was completely destroyed. Another building was 50% damaged.

The fire was put under control within an hour, still no word on a cause of the blaze or if arson is suspected.

A spokesperson for the Tyler Independent School District says the damages total $45,000 to each building.

"This is an unfortunate incident," said Tyler ISD Superintendent Randy Reid.

"It is good to know we had the assistance of a citizen to report the incident, and the Tyler Fire Department to quickly respond resulting in minimal damage and no injury," said Reid.

TISD Officials say the fire will not delay the start of school, Monday, August 27th.
