9 Million Toys Recalled

He consumer product safety commission announced this morning that Mattel is voluntarily recalling more than nine million of its toys, because of hazards to children.

Some of the toy s being recalled have magnets that can become dislodged and swallowed, and some have dangerous levels of lead paint.

The recall includes seven-point-three million play sets, including Polly Pocket Dolls and Batman action figures and one-point-five million die cast cars that contain lead paint.

However, the C-P-S-C says getting the toys off store shelves is only half the battle.

The agency's system is effective in getting products out of recall, however, getting products out of consumers homes is the bigger challenge. When consumers hear about a recall, they should react, should stop using the product and return it for repair, replacement or refund.

This is the second toy recall for mattel in two weeks. All the toys were made in China.

Earlier this month, mattel's fisher-price division recall ed more than a million pre-school toy s featuring such characters as big bird and elmo.
