Fleming Says Agenda Item Dismissed

It's an issue of that has one Smith County Commissioner very upset. Last Tuesday Precinct 1 Commissioner Joann Fleming requested to have an item on Monday's agenda at Smith County Commissioner's Court, but that item didn't make it.

Fleming requested to discuss publicly the raises budgeted for the juvenile board. Specifically their salary supplement increase and travel allowance increase. According to Commissioner Fleming, it is a right she has and something the public needs to know.

"This is an important issue. This is not a mere squabble or disagreement between two personalities. This is about open government," said Commissioner Fleming. "I need somebody to explain to me why we are raising the Judge Baker and other judges' to the extent they are. I need to know why they are going from $1800 to 2500 for travel expenses."

"This item had already been addressed. Having additional workshops, hearings regarding the budget. I am happy to put it on the agenda and I have on August 27th," said County Judge Joel Baker.

Fleming said she will request again to have the agenda item on next Monday's agenda.
