Investigation Continues Into Cause Of Blaze, Firefighters' Deaths

The investigation continues Saturday as to what caused the Flint house fire and the deaths of volunteer firefighters Captain Kevin Williams and Austin Cheek.  The two were responding to a house fire on Old Jacksonville Highway just south of 346 in Flint.  Saturday, investigators from the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office, the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the ATF were out at that home, going through debris.  Still no word on what caused the fire.  Investigators say they hope to know more sometime next week.

"This is something that we do not want to rush into, and we want to try to avoid any speculation as to what might to have happened out here, particularly determining the origin of the fire and what caused the fire and what may have happened to the firefighters," says Smith County Fire Marshal Jim Seaton.  "It's going to be a long drawn out process that we're not going to be able to up come with by five o'clock today."  Fortunately, the family of that home did make it out safely, but they have lost everything they own.  If you'd like to help, you can donate to the Joseph and Shelley Janczycki Tragedy Fund set up at all Austin Bank locations.
