Young East Texas Volunteer Drowns in Africa

A young volunteer from East Texas drowned this weekend in Africa.    Twenty one year old, Collin Carroll of Rusk was pulled under water by the oceans current while swimming with friends.   Collin worked with Mercy Ships as the coordinator for the dental team in Liberia. Collin's parents said they would send him anywhere in the world when he graduated college, and he wanted to work with Mercy Ships.

Sam Smith, Vice President of Development for Mercy Ships said, "he was such a charismatic guy. When he walked into a room, he was kind of a ray of light for our entire team. To all of a sudden have that light go out in such an early point is really devastating for us."

Today, Mercy Ships sent us a quote from Collin's application for the organization.  In it he said, "I have two options.  I can start a meaningless job that I would soon have to leave to continue my education, or I can do something that will have a profound and meaningful effect on my life while glorifying God and helping those in need.  I choose the latter."
