East Texans Remember Former U.S. Attorney Wes Rivers

Hundreds of people gather in Tyler this morning to remember former East Texas U.S. Attorney Wes Rivers.  Rivers died from a brain aneurysm while he was on vacation last week with his family at the age of 56.

Rivers was the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas for about six years.  He leaves behind his wife and two sons.  Those that knew him say Rivers was a great prosecutor and was always fair.

"Wes was like a real good guy, like a solid individual," said friend and former co-worker Matt Flanery.  "He never did anything that was disingenuous.  If he ever told you something then you knew that was the truth, and he was just above all the petty stuff that you sometimes run into.  He was a good guy."

Throughout his career, Rivers prosecuted many notorious cases, including the first organized crime drug enforcement force case ever in East Texas.
