2 Television Helicopters Collide In Midair Killing 4

Four people were killed this afternoon when helicopters from two Phoenix television news stations crashed. 

The choppers were following a high-speed police chase when they collided at around 12:40 p.m.

Reports indicate that the pilots spoke to each other over the two-way radio system moments before the crash.

The helicopters burst into flames mid-air and fell into a grassy area at Steele Indian School Park.

Station officials from KTVK Channel 3, an independent station, say photographer Jim Cox and pilot Scott Bowerbank, a Westcor Aviation employee, were on its chopper.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it's sending a team to investigate the crash.
