Apparent "Suicide By Cop" Attempt In Longview

An apparent "suicide by cop" attempt in Longview Wednesday afternoon. It happened around 5 o'clock Wednesday at a home near the corner of West Jones Street and West Street in Longview. Police say they got a call from a woman saying she was holding a man hostage with a knife to his throat. Police say when they arrived, she let the man go and put the knife to her own throat and that's when police tasered her to the ground. Their investigation revealed she had told the man and several others that she wanted police to kill her.

Sergeant Shaun Pendleton with the Longview Police Department says, "Unfortunately, a lot of times people get distraught and they want to commit suicide, but they just can't bring themselves to do it to themselves. So, they get into a situation where they know the police are going to get called,  and are hoping the police will do it for them. 9 times out of 10,  that doesn't happen, which is like what happened in this case here."

No charges are being filed against the woman, but police are looking into mentally committing her.
