Overtime Work For Road & Bridge Approved

With a little extra man power, our East Texas roads may be repaired sooner.

Smith County Commissioners voted to allow the labor division and certain mechanics to work overtime until the end of September.

The Department has been strained keeping up with the countless damaged roads and bridges across the county.  Right now nine roads are still closed.

"We can usually work people about 50 hours a week and still maintain a fairly good productivity. That will give us a tremendous help," said Bill Bala, Smith County Road & Bridge Engineer.

The crews will work on Fridays on only storm related work so that FEMA can reimburse the county.
