Last week this segment challenged the Smith County Commissioner's recent decision to give themselves a pay raise. In fairness I invited Smith County judge Joel Baker to respond. Although he declined the invitation to appear as a guest commentator he did offer this response.
Thank you for the opportunity for a guest commentary on KLTV. Your station is such a respected member of the community, and I know this would be a powerful tool to speak to the citizens of Smith County. However, while I would love to do one now, I would rather address the community when it comes time to make a jail proposal. The jail is the most important issue facing the county now, and I hope the rest of the court will join me in keeping their eyes on the ball.
