Rangerette Tryouts Begin

It's the Superbowl, the World Series and the Stanley Cup all rolled into one for some young ladies who are visiting East Texas for the Kilgore Rangerette tryouts.  Nearly a hundred young ladies from all over Texas, and as far away as California, are in Kilgore wearing their brightest dresses and brightest smiles to see if they'll be the next Rangerette's.

"We absolutely can tell a lot about them when they first come up those stairs and introduce themselves to us," said Rangerette Director Dana Blair.  "We are looking for girls who are very poised and beautiful on the inside and on the outside."

"I love dance, and the Rangerette's is a wonderful organization, and I would just love to be a part of it," said Jefferson hopeful Sara Todaro.  For the next week they'll be judged on their athletic ability, dance talent , teamwork and confidence, and many have worked years already to get here.

"My mom was a Rangerette from '76 to '78," said California native Lauren Gibler.  "It's the best of the best.  It's worth it everyone says."  For 68 years the time tested tryout process has produced the kind of Rangerette's that have made the dance team famous, and that's what these girls want to be part of.

"I love dance so much, and I love the challenge, and I've always looked up to them," said Longview native McKenna Vogel.  More than thirty sophomores return to the team, meaning there is only room for 35 new Rangerette's.  After drills and testing throughout the week, the final Rangerette line will be announced in a closed meeting Saturday morning.
