Beer Sales Put Brakes On Minor League Deal With Tyler

Although Tyler and East Texas have attracted many big sporting events, minor league baseball in the area will have to wait.

Last summer KLTV brought you the story of the Continental Baseball League and the possibility it would set a team in Tyler.

Thursday, KLTV learned the league will not be putting a team in East Texas. President of the CBL Ron Baron said that while they loved East Texas, beer sales are an important part of their business. If a team had been placed in Tyler, alcohol sales at a ballpark would not have been allowed.

Baron said Tyler and the league had been close to a deal but financial and lease negotiations could not be worked out.

A previous minor league team in Tyler, the Wildcatters, also dissipated after low crowd attendance blamed by many on a lack of beer and alcohol sales.
