Bad Temperatures, Bug Problem at East Texas Restaurants

The food was unsafe, there were bug problems, and that's just a sample of what inspectors found at East Texas restaurants.

In Longview, 4 area restaurants had the most serious violations, including The Butcher Shop at 102 Lehigh. Inspected June 15th, cold foods were held at unsafe temperatures, hygienic violations among employees, improper or inadequate handwashing, and evidence of insect contamination. They had 25 demerits.

Also with multiple demerits,

Joey's Seafood and Grill at 2609 Judson Road.

Cold foods were out of temperature... Equipment was not adequate to maintain food temperatures, and there was improper handling off ready to eat foods.

Total demerits 18.

Cafe Barron at 405 West Loop 281 was inspected June 13th.

There was improper cooling of cooked foods, old foods at unsafe temperatures, and evidence of insect contamination.

Total demerits 17.

And Glovers Bar-B-Que and Restaurant was inspected June 19th.

Hot foods were held out of temperature, food monitor thermometers were not functioning, and utensils were not properly washed and sanitized.

Total demerits 15.
