East Texas Business Donates Hundreds Of Bike Helmets

A donation today to the Tyler Police Department was heads above the rest.  The bicycle unit was given 360 bike helmets today by the folks at Tyler Ford.  The donation will help them continue their bike safety campaign.  The donation was prompted by a tragic bike accident just a few weeks ago.

"About two weeks ago, they had a seven-year-old that I read about that had been in a bicycle accident, and two or three days later, the little one passed away," said Tyler Ford's David Irwin.  "It was one that if he had had a helmet on, he probably would have survived it. "  The helmets will be handed out at department sponsored Bike Rodeos.  If you'd like to get one, the first bike rodeo is this Saturday, July 7th starting at 10:00 a.m., and running until 1:00 p.m.  It's at the Saint Louis School on Walton Road in Tyler.  There is no registration required, but parents must attend.
