Car Taken In Robbery Found On Fire

20 year old Vernon Ray Moss has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery (1st Degree Felony) and Arson (2nd Degree Felony). 20 year old Vernon Ray Moss has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery (1st Degree Felony) and Arson (2nd Degree Felony).

At approximately 10:09 pm, Monday night, Longview Police were sent to 3122 Estes Parkway, Night and Day Texaco, in reference to a robbery.

According to the initial police reports, the victims sitting in their car at the store when a black male approached them, pointed a handgun at the driver and told her to get out.   He then drove off in the vehicle.

The vehicle, a 2007 Mercedes, was equipped with a GPS tracking system and police were later notified that the GPS system had located the vehicle at the intersection of Ruth and Bobby Streets.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle on fire; fully engulfed by the flames.  Officers attempted to put the fire out but were unsuccessful.

While at the scene, officers developed a possible suspect. A Fire Department accelerant detection dog, brought to the scene, indicated a fire accelerant on the suspect.

A search warrant was obtained for a residence located a home on the 300 block of Ruth Drive, which is where the suspect is reported to have been staying.  Items from the stolen vehicle were located inside the residence. The suspect, 20 year old Vernon Ray Moss, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery (1st Degree Felony) and Arson (2nd Degree Felony).  He was taken to the Gregg County Jail and booked.  Bond has not yet been set.
