Two Arrested In Connection With Scrap Theft

At 11:23 am, On Sunday, Longview Police were sent to 1506 FM 1845, Longview Scrap and Metal, in reference to a criminal trespass in progress.  

When the officers arrived, they were informed the suspects had entered the property through a gate on the south end of the property and were believed to be stealing scrap metal.

Officers went to this area of the property and observed the suspects walking with metal items in their hands.  When the officers identified themselves and ordered the suspects to stop, the male suspect dropped the items he had been carrying and fled on foot.  He was arrested a short time later hiding in a nearby creek.

The male suspect was identified as 41 year old James Edward Shipman of Longview who was charged with Theft Over $500 (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Trespass (Class B Misdemeanor), Evading Arrest/Detention (Class B Misdemeanor) and an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear.

The female suspect was identified as 49 year old Barbara Davis Magel also of Longview.  She was charged with Theft Over $500 and Criminal Trespass.  Both suspects were taken to the Gregg County Jail and booked.  Bond has not yet been set on either suspect.
