I Love America Service Honors Our Armed Forces

With the 4th of July upon us, troops are being honored all over East Texas.  Sunday, Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler held a special service with Congressman Louie Gohmert and the families of many armed forces.

"I think it is the most important scene depicted in the capital," said Congressman Louie Gohmert.  During the service, Gohmert walked through some defining moments in our nation's history.

"This is an Independence Day celebration, and what better way than to go through and recount some of our great history because we do really have a godly heritage," said Gohmert.  One of the heroes honored was Navy Seaman Jeff Ragan, whose proud father Ron watched from the pew as Jeff was honored.

"Seeing Jeff there along with all those other people who really are sacrificing right now was amazing," said Ron.  "I sometimes wonder if we all realize that.  It is a sacrifice."  Jeff is in his second deployment, serving in the Persian Gulf.

"About six years ago he was watching MTV one day," said Ron.  "They were talking about the attacks on 9-11.  These Iraqi kids were laughing about it, how they thought it was the greatest thing that could ever happen.  I looked at Jeff, and when he turned around, with tears coming down his cheeks, he said 'I'm going to join the marines'.  He ended up not joining the marines and joining the navy instead.  We can debate all day long whether the war in Iraq is right or wrong. We must support our President. We must support our troops."

Support and love was seen from pew to pew Sunday.  Green Acres Baptist Church is holding another "I Love America" patriotic service Monday night at 7:00 p.m. The service is open to the public.
