"I Dream About It All The Time"

When the McCown Passing Camp began five years ago there were about 25 campers.

For the first day of camp Friday afternoon, that number was around 200.

The McCown's allow young East Texans the chance to learn from the pros. Some, like Gilmer eighth grader Luke Turner, keep coming back for more.

"I've participated every year and it's going pretty well," Luke said.

Luke has the goal of many young boys in East Texas. When asked if he dreamed of being a professional quarterback he was quick to say, "I dream about it all the time."

But the McCowns have given Luke and countless other boys an opportunity few can take advantage of: lessons from an NFL pro.

"It inspires me a lot," Luke said, "just to know that even little old East Texas can have a pro athlete go all the way to the NFL or NBA."

The McCown's do not see themselves as superstars, but to the youngsters watching their every move at camp they are heroes.

"Why are they talking to me?" Luke said of his first meeting with the McCowns. "I'm just a little kid from Jacksonville, Texas, moved to Gilmer and I'm not any more special than any other kid."

"We're still small town folks from Jacksonville," Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Luke McCown explained. "To have all the kids come up and ask for your autograph it's neat but at the same time we want to show our personality. We aren't any better than anybody else."

Still this family seems to play football better than most. The McCowns have produced two NFL quarterbacks, and one Big 12 champion.

Luke Turner took in every word of their instruction.

"I'm not very great at keeping my arm close to me, so I'm trying to work on that," Luke  Turner said of his lessons.

Whether Luke, Randy or Josh McCown are aware, they've not only inspired hard work on the football field, but bigger goals in life.

"To be a better person and get better at football," Luke Turner said. "Just aspire to be better at everything."
