Texas Monthly's best and worst legislator list was published this week and two senators representing east Texas made the list. Making the top ten was Senator Bob Duell who has the difficult challenge of representing residents in urban Dallas and rural East Texas. He also pushed many high profile bills through the Senate including the budget, 'The Needle Bill' and his own bill "Jessica's Law."
Closer to home, Senator Kevin Eltiffe made honorable mention. He was described by the editors as tough, pragmatic, independent, and, when he wants to be, funny. They also said he's a problem solver citing the fact that when the conference committee on the electric bill blew up, Lt. governor David Dewhurst turned to him to put it back together. Hopefully the entire senate will recognize that leadership of our state government is a problem seeking a solution and they will once again turn to senator Eltiffe in the next legislative session. Congratulations to both senators for making this a better Texas and of course...a better east Texas.
