Deputies Investigate Convenience Store Robbery

At approximately 12:07 a.m. this morning, Patrol Deputies with the Gregg county Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the E-Z Mart convenience store located on Hwy. 135 north of Kilgore in reference to a robbery alarm.Upon arrival the 36-year-old store clerk advised that a white male entered the store and inquired about directions to Hawkins, Texas.  The clerk assisted the man by showing him a map.         

During this time the man jumped over the counter and threatened the clerk with an opened pocket knife; and demanded the money.  The man is described as a white male, possibly 20-25 years of age, approximately 5' 06" tall, 180 pounds, short-cut blonde hair shaved on the sides, and blue eyes.         

The subject was wearing faded blue jean shorts, a white muscle shirt, and a white ball cap.  The subject fled the store with an undetermined amount of currency and was observed driving away in a two-toned mini-van, possibly red/maroon and white/silver.          The clerk was unharmed and Sheriff's Investigator, Chris Miller responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.     

      Any person with information concerning this crime is being urged to contact the Gregg County Sheriff's Office (903-236-8400) or Gregg County Crime Stoppers at 903-236-STOP.  Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000.00 for information that leads to the arrest of the person or person(s) responsible for this robbery, according to Capt. Ken Hartley.
