News Changes In East Texas Mall's Future

An East Texas mall is getting a whole new look.  Starting in August, shoppers will begin to see some changes at the Broadway Square Mall in Tyler.  The mall announced Wednesday its major renovation project, which includes a new center court area and a children's soft play area.  There will also be new restrooms, which will include family- friendly amenities like a nursing room and lounge area.  The mall is also redesigning all three mall entrances, and getting new floors.

"We've been talking about it for the last couple of years, and we just knew it was time to do something," said Broadway Square Mall Manager Laurie Van Dalen.  "We need to improve the mall for our families and for our shoppers because it's not just a shopping place, it's an entertainment venue."  The mall says the renovations will be done overnight, and it will limit the construction during the holiday shopping season.  The renovations are expected to be complete in May of next year.

Often times, African American history is only recognized during the month of February.  Founders of the Texas African American Museum felt their history slowly slipping away, now they are hoping to change that with the opening of the museum. "Some of the things I've seen in this little museum, I've not seen in history books, I've not seen online," visitor Cramoeya Cooper said. Though it may be small, the Texas African American Museum packs an exurbanite amount of inf...More >>
