East Texas Teen's Wish Comes True

A pool party Sunday was a small part of a special wish for an East Texas teen.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted 14 year old Britney Hacker her special wish.  Nearly six years ago Britney came and changed Stephanie and Ed Hacker's life.

"She was abandoned by her mother when she was three months old," said Britney's father, Ed Hacker.  "She was in foster care from then on.  When we adopted her she was eight at the time."  Britney is deaf, has a congenital heart defect, and stomach problems.  She has had open heart surgery five times.

"She has had a lot of medical issues and sick a lot, but she is always a joy to all of us," said Hacker.

"When we adopted Britney, we adopted her so that we could give her all the things she never had," said Britney's mother Stephanie Hacker.  One of those things, a trip to the beach.  When they realized Britney qualified for Make-A-Wish they knew what the wish would be .

"If there is one thing she loves it's swimming, driving and staying in motels," said Stephanie Hacker.  They asked Make-A-Wish to take Britney on a road trip, with stops at motels, destination: Key West.

"It's just one of those things you just have to see when you pull up into a motel and she starts kicking her legs and laughing until she turns purple because she is laughing so hard," said Stephanie Hacker.  "She loves to swim and loves the water.  In the wintertime she stays in the bathtub she's like a fish."  Britney's wish was granted, but she doesn't quite know that yet.

"I cant tell her we are going yet because she will pack her suitcase and be waiting at the kitchen door until it is time to leave," said Stephanie Hacker. "I think its something she will always remember.  It's just awesome that Make-A-Wish could make a wish come true for her a wish."  Britney and her parents leave for Florida next week.
