Immigration Measure Fails Crucial Test Vote

The controversial immigration overhaul bill has failed miserably in a senate vote and it's possible the deal could now be dead.  Yesterday the immigration bill fell 15 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and allow a vote on the measure itself.  The bill would have provided access to legal status for the million illegal immigrants.  Congressman Louie Gohmert says in order for the issue to move forward, changes have to be made.

"There's a number of really wrong-headed provisions currently in the law that need to be addressed, need to be fixed.  But I come back to the basic premise: let's not make it more advantageous to have acted illegally then for those who have acted legally, bottom line," said  Gohmert.

The White House says President Bush is disappointed the effort did not pass but he still believes there's a "good chance" that Congress can approve an immigration bill.
