Cougars Invade East Texas Looking For Talent

Eight East Texans currently play football for the University of Houston.  And, if Cougars head football coach Art Briles has anything to do with it, there will be a few more fairly soon.   The Cougars held a football camp at Gladewater's Jack V. Murphy, Bear Stadium today. Players from all over North East Texas received hands on attention from Briles and his entire coaching staff.  The Conference USA champs were there to not only offer advice, but to check out some of the area's top talent, including Lee running back Jamaal Mitchell, Tatum defensive back Cassius Pollard, and Elysian Fields QB Tim Curry.  Briles and his staff were more than happy to get up close and personal with the area's top talent.

"You know we go out in the spring and fall, go shake hands, watch them work out, but this is when we can actually work with the players, sweat with them, and have a chance to understand them as human beings," Briles said.  "And you know Houston has been strong in East Texas since the 1960's, so when we have a good season like we had this year we do try to capitalize on that by moving in and trying to get the athletes that fit our system, and there's always going to be four or five athletes in the East Texas area that fit what we're looking for and this year is certainly no exception."
