East Texas Native Plans Career In Hollywood

From Whitehouse to Hollywood, an East Texas native has big plans for her career.   At 8 years old, Laci Kay has not only met one of the biggest pop idols in the world, she's gotten to play her on her music video.  Today, KLTV 7's oralia ortega caught up with Laci.

"I saw a girl with really long blond hair and I was like, 'Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh,'" said Laci. It was in September of last year that Laci got to meet one of the biggest music stars in the world, Christina aguilera, at a music video set in California.  "She was like, 'You must be Laci Kay.'  I was like, 'How did you know my name?' said Laci.

Laci, a second-grader, beat out hundreds of other girls for a role playing a younger version of Aguilera in the pop singer's video Hurt.  About a year ago, Laci's family moved to Ventura, CA because of her dad's job.

Laci decided she wanted to go to acting school.  "And she goes, 'Oh, mom, that's what I wanna do'," said Laci's mother Cindy Schoonover.

Laci now has three agents.  "She has an agent for commercial and also voice over. She has an agent for print. She has an agent for theatrical, for film," said David Schoonover.

Laci has done seven commercials, including one that's playing right now in Europe for a baby doll.   Laci's mother says despite the success, Lacy remains pretty grounded.  "I have no idea how much money I have. My mom knows everything. She knows everything about my money, seriously," said Laci.

But when Laci figures out how much she has, she has some pretty big plans. "I plan to get maybe three things that I like:  a mansion;  I would love to get one, an RV and my dad, a big motorcycle," said Laci.

Laci says it's time-consuming to go to auditions and still get her homework done.  But she says she hopes her hard work will pay off and she'll move on from doing commercials to the silver screen.  "Maybe do a few movies.   Maybe, happy ending movies, fun movies, stuff like that," said Laci.

Laci goes to two to three auditions per week.  Most recently, she auditioned for a spot in the movie Baby Geniuses 3.  Laci says her dream is to make a movie with Dakota Fanning.
