Gift Of Love: Dillion

At nine years old, he's a handsome young man with big blue eyes. But after two years in foster care, he's cautious of change and anything new.

"I don't know if you got to see his smile because he's very shy and reserved but, when he smiles, his face is just aglow," says Patty Osborn with Child Protective Services.

Like most boys, Dillion enjoys sports. He's very proud of his recent accomplishments at sports day at school. "I jumped rope and threw that ball. I won 13 ribbons," says Dillion.

"He works very hard at everything he does . He's made tremendous progress in his school work and he's really proud of that," says Patty.

And when he grows up he says, "I want to be a fireman."

Dillion has been through a lot at such a young age. "His dad was parenting the children. There were 6 siblings at home. There was an accident and he was killed and there was no other family member that could take the children so they came into care,' explains Patty.

Despite his past, he's a friendly boy who gets along well with others. Patty says, "When we were coming down here today I asked him what he would like people to know about him and he said he'd like them to know he's nice and that he's nice to everyone."

That's exactly how teachers describe this 3rd grader, nice. He will need extra help with school work but he wants to do well.

"He's a good kid and fits into just about any family as long as they realize they really need to help him a lot."

Dillion would do best in a structured environment that provides consistency, support and guidance. He will need time to trust a new family. Trust, that can only come with the Gift of Love.
